MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – If Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be used by students to submit their theses or by fast food chains to take customer orders, why can’t it be used in lieu of voting in the polls?
Well, ask no more.
The Philippines’ Commission on Elections (Comelec) today announced that beginning with the 2025 mid-term elections, AI will replace ballots when voting for national and local candidates.
Comelec told The Adobo Chronicles that it is finalizing plans to use AI to facilitate the election and proclamation of candidates.
Instead of going to the poll booths, Comelec said that voters can just register their social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and AI will determine their choice of candidates based on their social media history.
Comelec said this novel idea will save the government a lot of money normally spent to conduct elections, and will ensure a higher percentage of registered voters actually voting.
