MANDALUYONG, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Mandaluyong Bureau) – Year after year, surveys have shown that Rappler, the online news source owned by Nobel Laureate and convicted criminal Maria Ressa, is among the least — if not the least — trusted news brands-in the Philippines.
But that hasn’t stopped Rappler from reinventing itself in order to remain competitive in the news business.
Yesterday, Ressa announced that Rappler is changing its name and logo to maRites to reflect its shift from accurate news to gossip and speculation.
For starters, Rappler posted a story graphic claiming that there is a rift between Bongbong and Imee Marcos. The “story” coincided with the 37th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.

Was Rappler speculating on sibling rivalry or a mere difference in political opinion?
