QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Quezon City Bureau) – Vice President Leni Robredo has put forward an ambitious proposal to totally overhaul Philippine classrooms across the country.
Emphasizing that the Philippines is often visited by typhoons and monsoon rains which cause flooding, Robredo said all classrooms must have a second floor. This, she said, will enable students to move up to a higher and safer place in case of flooding.

The Vice President said that in addition, she’d like all schools and classrooms to be constructed not using cement, but indigenous nipa shingles and bamboo poles. This, she said, will prevent harm and possible fatality to kids in case there is an earthquake.

So much for “duck, cover and hold!”
