MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Let’s give it to the Catholic Church in the Philippines. It is being very proactive against the spread of coronavirus in the country.
Today, the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) announced that it has ordered the temporary closure of all churches across the country as a way to curb the possible spread of coronavirus.
Earlier, the CBCP advised Catholics to refrain from kissing the ring of their bishops, holding hands during the recitation of “The Lord’s Prayer” and shakng people’s hands or kissing and hugging them during the the “Peace be with you” portion of the Holy Mass. But it feels these measures were not enough.
”It was a difficult decision for the bishops to order the closure of all churches, realizing the virus could easily be spread in crowded environments like the Sunday masses,” a CBCP spokesperson said.
”We’ll just find other ways to raise funds that would be lost from our Sunday collection baskets,” the spokesperson said.
