MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The Philippine House of Representatives approved on second reading a bill seeking to reduce the optional retirement age from 60 to 56.
The Coalition of Filipino Senior Citizens (CFSC) sent a strongly-worded letter to House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, objecting to the measure.
Among other things, the letter pointed out that lowering the retirement age to 56 will result in longer queues in:
- Supermarket checkout counters
- Taxi lines
- Public elevators
- Free movies at cinemas
- Service counters at banks, clinics, hospitals and other businesses
- Other services offering priority to senior citizens
We tried to reach Cayetano but it seems his smart phone is currently on low batt…
