MANILA. Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – SM Malls, the largest conglomerate of shopping malls in the Philippines, is taking the lead in ending LGBT discrimination in the country.
It has announced that it will convert all its public restrooms into “all-gender” restrooms.
The move came after that incident in a Quezon City mall where a transgender woman was refused the use the female restroom by a clueless attendant.
In a statement issued through a spokesperson for SM, management said that it fully supports the LGBT community and will immediately institute a “free-for-all” restroom policy, one that will allow customers to use whichever restroom they are comfortable and fully identify with — male, female, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, etc. etc.
SM’s only request is for all restroom users to wash their hands after use.
