MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Commissioner Chito Gascon is a happy camper these days after the Philippine House of Representatives (HOR) doubled the 2018 budget of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR).

It will be recalled that HOR earlier slashed CHR’s budget from P678 Million to P1,000.  It has then increased the approved budget to P2,000.

In speaking with The Adobo Chronicles, Gascon said that the increase in his budget comes at a very significant day when Twitter also announced that it is doubling the 140-character limit for tweets.

“It only shows that human rights and free speech will always prevail if we are vigilant,” Gascon said.
