MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Despite losing the case brought by the Philippines before the Permanent Arbitration Court over the South China Sea territorial dispute, China continues to assert its expansionist policy by laying claim on yet another island in the Philippines.
It has laid claim on a small island that recently formed at Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). The island emerged as a result of a damaged asphalt runway at NAIA which forced authorities to temporarily shut down the airport for emergency repairs.
China considers the island very strategic because it would give it the right to use the rest of the NAIA runway to guard and protect its new island territory.
