SEATTLE, Washington (The Adobo Chronicles, San Francisco Bureau) – Pot Pies. They come in different versions: chicken, turkey, beef, vegetarian. No well-meaning diner will be without them on their menu
But soon, fans of this traditional food fare will have a new option: pot pie, as in marijuana pie
Marijuana has transcended its recreational use. It is now becoming a commodity sniffed for medical purposes, as well as consumed in pastries like brownies. It’s about time the food industry tap into this controversial weed to expand its business horizon.
To date, 24 states, including Washington, D.C. have passed legislation to legalize medical marijuana use, majority of which are for medicinal purposes. But Alaska, Washington, Oregon and Colorado have given the green light for pot’s recreational use.
Capitalizing on the growing interest in marijuana, entrepreneurs in several states where the weed is medically and recreationally legal are busy putting together their business plans to develop and market pot pies, the weed version. It is rumored that Marie Callender’s, the leading brand in pies, is spearheading this new effort.
Watch for it on the menu of a diner near you or in the freezer section of your favorite supermarket.
