QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Presidential sister and self-proclaimed Queen Of All Media Kris Aquino is hanging up the gloves.  After almost 20 years with her home network, ABS-CBN, Aquino is leaving show business.

In a series of Instagram posts, Aquino said she hoped that her fans will miss her.

She explained that her decision to stay away from the limelight was prompted by what she seemed to refer to as “heart problems.”

She emphasized that her health and that of her family are more important than fame and fortune.  She has decided to focus on a more healthy lifestyle — of Chinese food, burgers, barbecue, potato chips and nachos.

This was what she posted on her Instagram account:

The Adobo Chronicles’ Great Presidential-VP Mix-Up Poll: Who Would You Vote For?

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Every Filipino knows that he or she doesn’t have to vote for the vice presidential running mate of presidential candidates.  Philippine presidential elections are like chop suey, you can mix and match.  In fact, incumbent Vice President Jejomar Binay does not belong to the same Liberal Party of President NoyNoy Aquino.

So, in the spirit of chop suey, we are conducting a national poll never conducted before by any polling organization.  We’re calling it the ‘Great Presidential-VPD Mix-Up Poll.’

Here are the rules:  we’ve chosen to mix and match the presidential and vice presidential candidates across party lines; all you have to do is vote for your favorite pairing. No substitutions, please!

Let the games begin!

Duterte Honors His Word, Quits Presidential Race Following Supreme Court Decision On Grace Poe

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – When Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte first officially announced that he will run for president of the Philippines in the 2016 elections, he said that what prompted his decision was the  Senate tribunal vote throwing out the disqualification case (DQ) against Senator Grace Poe’s presidential bid.

Duterte believed then that Poe, being a foundling, is not a natural-born citizen and thus not qualified to seek the highest post in the land. The decision of the tribunal, he said, “cheapens the Constitution, the only thing that holds the country together.”

Since then, the Commission on Elections has disqualified Poe, prompting the DQ case to come before the Supreme Court.

Well, yesterday the high court ruled in favor of Poe, in a 9-6 decision, affirming the senator’s status as a natural-born citizen, paving the way for her presidential bid.

Today, saying he was a man who has a word of honor, and being a lawyer who respects the law and constitutional process, Duterte suspended his campaign to run for president.

‘With the Supreme Court ruling, my primary motivation for running is now moot and void,’ Duterte said.

So the presidential race is now down to three candidates. Four if you count VP Jejomar Binay.
