Tacloban, Philippines – The Filipino people are united in praising and thanking foreign governments and the international community for the overwhelming financial and in-kind support their country received, and continues to receive, in the aftermath of the most powerful typhoon of record that killed thousands, flattened homes and infrastructure, and turned once vibrant communities into ghost towns. In many instances, foreign rescue and relief personnel were first to arrive at the scenes of devastation, way ahead of teams dispatched by Manila’s government. In the first moments of the disaster, President Noynoy Aquino repeatedly criticized local governments for being unprepared for the super typhoon and for being unable to immediately respond to its deadly effects, especially in the hard-hit areas of Central Philippines.

Surviving individuals and families went without food, shelter and medical aid for days. Anger and frustration were evident among Filipinos trying to fend for themselves and struggling to flee their neighborhoods in search of relief, comfort and dignity. Cadavers remained uncollected, largely contributing to the unbearable stench of the national government’s relief and rescue operations. Meanwhile, Secretary of the Interior and Local Governments Mar Roxas kept repeating during media interviews that “everything was under control.” What little relief packages that were being distributed had stickers of the Office of  Vice President Jejomar Binay plastered over them – a clever  prelude to his expected campaign for the 2016 presidential elections.image

The calamity hit the country at a time when massive dissatisfaction with the central government was  rising at fever pitch, brought about by the pork barrel scandal that saw billions of taxpayer money going into the pockets of top politicians and their citizen cronies.  Many calamity victims were quick to point out that the impact of the powerful typhoon could have been minimized had the pork barrel funds been spent as intended — to build public infrastructure and services that would have possibly put rescue and relief operations in times like these into place.

While the Filipino people continued to express their deep gratitude to the international aid they have received so far, they were one in making a last appeal which they described as their greatest, ultimate need.  Today, in a unified message to the United Nations and through international media, the Filipinos appealed for a donation of a functioning government to replace the one that’s currently in place.  “It would be the greatest gift of all, one that would put an end to decades of government corruption as well as suffering by the Filipino people,” they said.

  2. Shame on you Jejomar Binay!!!
Hindi ka ba nahihiya sa mga foreign countries na una pang tumutulong sa mga biktima ng typhoon Yolanda?
Ang kapal ng mukha mo!!!Puro lang political interest at pangungurakot ang nasa isip mo!!!

  4. The Philippines will be a better place if it’s government will be governed by deeply conscientious leaders whose hearts will be for the people. Let the poor , the sick and the under privilege rise up. Let there be no self gratification , greed , material complexities , arrogance , insensitiveness , and oppression . Therefore be replaced by sincere humility , kindness , and a lot of givings. There is HOPE. Great spirits should be the core of humanity.

  5. Its soooooo disgusting for mr Binay, the Philippine vice-president, to be distributing relief goods to the victims of super typhoon Yolanda, clearly taking full advantage of the misery of the helpless victims to add mileage to his campaign for the Presidency in 2016. Enough of these breed of so called honorable public servants who sticks out some help, not from their pocket but from peoples tax money, to serve their hunger for power. God is watching…

  6. There is no better word to describe Binay except SHAMELESS. I am convinced that people like him holding high positions will only bring out the worst in the Philippines and the Filipinos. Let us be careful. Make sure people like him get not one space in our ballots. Please. Do this not only for yourself but your children as well.

  7. I too would like to salute all the international nations who have rushed to the aid of my country, the Philippines. With all the donations both monetary and in-kind, it should be a great help to rebuild the towns and cities that were flattened by the strongest typhoon. However, since the country is still investigating the “Pork Barrel” scandal, I would really like to make some suggestions. I would like to see the donations go to the survivors and their families directly, rather than having it go through Philippine agency channels that may have some hidden motives about the relief goods.
I would therefore suggest that those countries who have sent hospital ships take care of all the Filipinos who need medical aid in these ships. Those nations who sent aircrafts and land transportations can give out their own donations to the people to ensure that the people meant to have them are not short-changed by the government’s desire to maintain a “controlled”, “timely” and “reliable” distribution. I fear that if all the donations and relief goods are left with the agencies, many of the people who are in need will not see any or all of the donations.
I applaud the United States for making sure that those people who live in remote areas not reached through land transportation receive their goods by parachutes. Maybe then will the Philippine government remember that they are in power because the people put them there. The Philippine government should remember that it is a government “for the people and by the people” That is what democracy is.

  8. The president itself didn’t had any “special zeal ” like other politicians did. If so then I’m very sure lots of picture and criticism spread in social media and local tv news channel as we all know he has so many fellow government officials been always criticized his governance from the very beginning and I’m sure until on his final term. And for these fake people used their current positions to the government to step up to the next higher level by giving a small bag contains food as their donations (they called) with a very fancy “zeal” attached on it ,is the most disgusting I’ve ever seen!!!! And I’m 100% sure that more than half of what they spend (“donations & fancy zeal” ) comes from the Filipinos tax payer!!! And not from their own savings!!Or maybe they didn’t spend any thing or nothing at all from their own.

  10. My heartfelt thanks to the 22 countries who really give their services and donations in order that the Filipino will given hope and inspiration to stand again…I admit, without the help of other countries it is hard to the Filipinos to stand with our own since we have no capacity and the government has no enough savings to reconstruct the devastation brought by the typhoon…As we know our saving was already gone into the pocket of some selfish persons….
Again Thank you World People and Countries ( UN) for your willingness to help; financial,in kind or in personal services esp…doctors… God Bless Philippines and those who help globally..God will repay more than what you give….
