OAKLAND, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – Just moments after basketball star Kobe Bryant of the L.A. Lakers announced that he will be retiring at the end of the current NBA season, The Golden State Warriors’ Steph Curry shocked the sports world by announcing he is retiring effective immediately.

“It’s a matter of knowing when to quit,” Curry told The Adobo Chronicles.  “There is no better time to retire than when my team has achieved an all-time record start of 18-0 in this current season,” Curry added. “I’m just following the example of boxing champion Floyd Mayweather who has retired after a zero loss record.”

Asked what he’s going to do next, Curry said he will devote 100% of his time to his family.  He has two daughters with his wife Ayesha — Riley (the press confererence darling) and Ryan Carson.

GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS, NBA CHAMPS, TO CELEBRATE ‘LAGLAG BALA’

imageSAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – NBA champions Golden State Warriors will hold a fundraiser to celebrate laglag bala,  the now internationally-recognized extortion scheme at Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). The scheme involves the alleged ‘planting’ by airport personnel of bullets in bags of unsuspecting passengers.

The Warriors will host a Filipino Heritage event at a California casino on November 14, and will be wearing special edition “shooting shirts,” according to an announcement by event organizers.

In response to a query by The Adobo Chronicles on the significance of the shooting shirts, the organizers said the basketball champs recognize the extraordinary accomplishment by NAIA in putting the Philippines on the world map through the laglag bala scheme.

Proceeds from the sale of the shooting shirts will go towards the continued improvement and modernization of NAIA.

NBA FINALS: TWO FILIPINOS ARE GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS’ LUCKY CHARM

OAKLAND, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – Every time Filipina singer Nayah Damasen sings the Star-spangled Banner at a basketball game featuring the Golden State Warriors, the California NBA team wins, as they did in Game #1 of the 2015 NBA finals held last night.

Damasen, 10, has been singing the U.S. national anthem for the Warriors’ games since age 5. The team considers her its ‘lucky charm.’

Well, it turns out this season saw not just one, but two lucky charms for the Warriors — both Filipinos.

The other charm is no other than Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao, who last year, joined the Warriors in a practice session while they trained for this year’s NBA season.  Since then, things have been turning up roses for the Warriors, whose last stint in an NBA finals was in 1975, when they won the championship.

With two lucky charms, hopes are high that the Warriors will be this year’s NBA champions.

Hey, they might even ask both Damasen and Pacquiao (who himself is a recording artist) to sing the national anthem as a duet for one of the six (or three) remaining finals games against the Cleveland .
