First Of May

In May’s first light, when trees stood tall,
We reveled in life’s humble thrall.
No screens to lure our wandering eyes,
Just skies above, no pixelized lies.

With radio crackling, news would greet,
Batteries powered, a lifeline sweet.
Packed lunches, schoolbooks in our hands,
Walking to learn in peaceful lands.

Colleagues, comrades, side by side,
Dine out joy, no digital divide.
Respect for leaders, in church and state,
Social circles, not a virtual gate.

Oh, simpler times, we often recall,
When May’s first dawn held naught but gall.
Yet, nostalgia’s glow, a comforting balm,
In memory’s grasp, we find our calm.
