AMERICAN SINGER MILEY CYRUS DEFENDS PHILIPPINE LEWD SHOW AT POLITICAL PARTY

CALAMBA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – The Philippine politician who celebrated his 58th birthday with dancing women in skimpy clothes said he is so straight he saw nothing wrong about objectifying women for fun.

Laguna Rep. Benjamin Agarao downplayed a live show of scantily clad women dancing on top of men during the celebration of his birthday and of 40 years in government service on Thursday. It was largely an event organized by the Liberal Party of the Aquino administration.

Reports first floated that the dancing women were sent to the event by Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chief Francis Tolentino. But Agarao denied this, saying the lewd performance was brought by his friend.

Agarao maintained that the lewd performance was held after the oathtaking of LP members in Laguna, earlier attended by LP standard bearer Mar Roxas.

While the event drew a firestorm of criticism, an unlikely ally came to the defense of the Liberal Party — American pop star Miley Cyrus.

Yes, the same Miley Cyrus who twerked her way on stage with singer Robin Thicke at last year’s MTV Video Music Awards.

Speaking to reporters in Hollywood, Cyrus defended the Philippine lewd show, saying that “twerking is a skillful performance act, one that is akin to ballet or tap dancing.”

“Filipinos need to grow up,” Cyrus said, “and leave politics out of performace art and vice versa!”

Encouraged by the inspiring words of Cyrus, the Liberal Party is reportedly considering a new politival campaign theme of “Tuwad na daan ” (bending path), a take-off from the Aquino’s anti-corruption mantra of “Tuwid na daan.” (straight path).

So, ‘twerk pa more!’ (More twerking!)

ADOBO CHRONICLES’ READERS HAVE SPOKEN: DUTERTE FOR PRESIDENT!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – Yesterday, we reported that according to a soon-to-be-released national poll by the Social Weather Networks (SWS), there is a four-way tie among declared and potential 2016 presidential candidates Grace Poe, Mar Roxas, Jojo Binay and Rodrigo Duterte.

To confirm the poll results, we conducted our own informal survey among our readers.

Lo and behold, we have a significantly different result.

Duterte, the candidate that has not officially declared his presidential bid, topped our survey with an overhwelming 48% of the votes — 26 (22%) and 29 (19%) points ahead of Roxas and Poe, respectively.  Vice President was dead last at 11%.

With a margin of error of plus or minus 3%, Roxas and Poe are in a statistical tie.

Will Duterte now change his mind and finally declare his run for the presidency?

Stay tuned!

CARLY FIORINA’S $500,000 AFFAIR WITH TED CRUZ

fiorinaWASHINGTON D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles®) – Politics is not politics without scandals.  This scandal is about what appears to be a short-lived affair between Carly Fiorina and Ted Cruz, Republican presidential candidates both.

No, it’s not what you’re thinking.  No romance is involved — at least none that we know of.

Rather, it is an unusual $500,000 donation made by one of Cruz’s super PACs to Fiorina’s campaign.

Even the Federal Election Commission (FEC)  has no clue on why the donation was made by Cruz to a rival candidate. The super PAC was  vague about the donation, describing it on its FEC filing as “other disbursement.” So, the FEC sent a letter to the super PAC asking for a statement or description of the disbursement.

Many questions remain unanswered. Does the donation mean that Cruz, if chosen the party’s nominee for president,  will pick Fiorina for his vice presidential running mate?  But what about if Fiorina wins the nomination?  Will Cruz ask for a payback by being named Fiorina’s VP?

But then again, it might just be a gentlemanly gesture by Cruz in appreciation for the efforts of the lone woman candidate in a field of 37 Republican presidential candidates.  Chivalry may, after all, still be alive.
