Imee Marcos: Sign Now, Question Later

Screenshot

(Updating: Imee Marcos says hers was an “electronic signature” on the AKAP insertion.)

In a stunning display of selective amnesia, Senator Imee Marcos feigned incredulity at the existence of the P26.7-billion Ayuda Kita sa Kapos program, conveniently ignoring her own signature adorning the document. It’s a performance worthy of an Oscar for political amnesia.

One wonders if her pen has a mind of its own, or if signing first and questioning later has become the new modus operandi in political circles. Perhaps she mistook her signature for a decorative flourish, unaware of the multimillion-peso implications it carries.

This episode underscores the theatricality that often accompanies political inquiries, where ignorance becomes a shield and accountability a distant concept. It’s reminiscent of a magician feigning surprise at the rabbit emerging from the hat, conveniently forgetting that they put it there in the first place.

In the circus of political theater, it seems the audience is always left holding the bill.

Dateline Zürich: Call Me, Harry; Call Me, Sal!

by Maria Bratikova

Mr. Panelo and Mr. Roque, both allied to the secession-happy and ICC-wary former  President Duterte, deployed contradicting statements in relationship to the latter and his phone calls.

Both Uncle Sal and Dirty Harry are brilliant and flamboyant lawyers. The former President is himself a lawyer.

Mistakes are common and confusion can ensue. After all, to err is human.  It  is almost a norm these days of digitisation and hi-tech. All three of them may claim their cerebrums (cerebra) were hacked.

What‘s also news, from the other side of the flat earth,  is that ’Murican president Biden recently received calls  from French President  Kohl and German Kaiser Miterrand  who told him they are dead.  😁😁😁(They are really dead!)

Biden was so sad to hear the story that he promptly extended his condolences to the reporting dead leaders and their families. His wife Jillian joined in expressing her sympathies.

Comedy had gone overboard.

I‘m not laughing any more.

P.I.: Slip Of The Tongue Implicates House Speaker (Video)

It seems in the fishy waters of Philippine politics, even the catchers can get caught by their own bait.

Lawyer Anthony Abad, supposedly a champion of reform and modernization through the People’s Initiative for charter reform, finds himself entangled in his own net.

Like a fish caught by its own mouth, Abad’s admission in a Senate hearing that he met with House Speaker Martin Romualdez, exposes the tangled web of interests and alliances behind the push for reform.

Now, the ball is in the Speaker’s court to continue to deny allegations that he was involved in the payment-for-signature People’s Initiative.

One can’t help but wonder if Abad, like a slippery eel, thought he could swim through the murky waters of political maneuvering unscathed. But alas, his own words have ensnared him and the Speaker, leaving him gasping for air in the spotlight of scrutiny.
