Senator Cynthia Villar: The ‘BOBOtization’ Of The Filipino

In her recent statement that Filipinos are “bobo” for importing chemical fertilizer, Senator Cynthia Villar seems to have conveniently forgotten her pivotal role in the Rice Tariffication Law, a piece of legislation that opened the floodgates for private trader- imported rice, crippling our own rice farmers. It’s almost comical to witness the audacity of a person who champions one form of importation while vilifying another.

One must marvel at the cognitive dissonance required to simultaneously condemn imported fertilizer and endorse imported rice, as if the interests of Filipino farmers can be selectively championed. Perhaps Sen. Villar has a keen sense of irony and has decided to master the art of the double standard. (And let us not forget that Villar is no fan of research!)

If only she could fertilize her memory with the knowledge of her own legislative history, perhaps she would refrain from labeling the very people she’s impacted with her own decisions as “bobo.”

Alas, the satirical paradox prevails, and the hypocrisy of it all remains a bitter harvest for Filipino farmers.

Sara Duterte’s Intelligence Funds Restored By House Of Representatives!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Just hours after the House of Representatives panel removed P1.23 billion in confidential and intelligence funds from the proposed P5.7-trillion budget for 2024, the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education, both headed by Sara Duterte, got their CIF back — in full!

The panel reconsidered its earlier decision after Duterte re-submitted her proposed budget and renamed the CIF line item to “Counter Intelligence Fund.”

The panel members didn’t see it coming. They had earlier thought that it has been made crystal clear that they were unanimously against the intelligence fund.

But when Duterte “reclassified” the fund as “counter intelligence” the panel members had no choice but to approve the resubmitted budget.

“We have countered the confidential and intelligence funds,” House Appropriations Committee Chairman Elizaldy Co said, “so by not approving the counter intelligence funds as resubmitted by the VP, we will be contradicting ourselves.”

Who would have thought that simple semantics could sway our lawmakers to approving one of the most controversial items in the 2024 national budget?

Davila And Heydarian: New People’s Army Voice Was Heard!

Ah, the dynamic duo of Karen Davila and Richard Heydarian, our trusted voices of reason in the world of Philippine politics. In separate posts, they discussed the House of Representatives’ decision to cut off confidential intelligence funds for the Office of the Vice President, along with other agencies. According to them, it’s a victory for the people – their voice was heard. But not just any people, it’s the “new PEOPLE’s army.”

Davila and Heydarian, our modern-day prophets of populist wisdom, have truly outdone themselves this time. Forget the intricacies of budget allocations and national security; they’ve uncovered the true puppet masters at play – a clandestine organization of citizens, perhaps armed with smartphones and social media accounts, intent on reshaping the nation.

In this dystopian reality, Davila and Heydarian are our saviors, bravely standing up against the ominous “new PEOPLE’s army” armed only with microphones and questionable logic.

The satire writes itself – in a world where facts and reason are scarce, thank goodness we have our intrepid hosts to guide us through the madness.
