BATAC, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Upon learning that Philippine President-elect Rod Duterte plans to transfer the seat of government from Manila to Davao City, the Marcos family submitted a bid to purchase Malacañang, the presidential palace, for an undisclosed amount.

Lawyers of former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos and Senator Bongbong Marcos told  The Adobo Chronicles  that the family would like to return to Malacañang, their official residence for twenty years.

The Marcoses had hoped to return to the palace through Bongbong who ran for the position of vice president in the recently-concluded elections and whose ultimate goal was to become president.  Unfortunately, Bongbong lost the VP contest to Leni
Robredo.

“Rather than let the palace go to waste and be vacant, the Marcoses said the government may just as well convert the massive property into cash to benefit the national treasury,” the lawyers indicated.

The only stipulation in the purchase proposal is that all of the frozen Marcos assets be released by the Philippine government so that the family will have the funds to fully pay in cash.

The Coconut Palace

NAGA CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – In the Philippines, the days of pomp and circumstance are numbered.

Filipinos have elected a president and a vice president who both refuse any public display of privilege and excessive life.

Previously, President-elect Rod Duterte had announced that instead of taking up residence in Malacañang, the presidential palace, he will be commuting back and forth from Manila to Davao City.  He is also considering transferring the seat of government to his hometown in Mindanao.

Today, following the conclusion of the congressional election canvass which confirmed that she will become the next vice president, Leni Robredo announced that she is not going to live in the Coconut Palace, the official VP residence in Manila.

Instead, Robredo said that she will be commuting daily to her hometown of Naga City. She will be commuting by bus, like she always does.

The Coconut Palace was built during the administration of the late Ferdinand E. Marcos and was among the ostentatious infrastructure projects of then First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos.

Will Malacañang and the Coconut Palace be auctioned off soon on eBay?
