MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) is up for privatization, as officials say the sale of the agency could, at best, fetch P60-P80 billion!
Well, that could just be spare change for some of the country’s richest billionaires.
The combined wealth of the top 50 richest Filipinos is estimated at $80 billion — that’s U.S. dollars — or a peso equivalent of P4.4 trillion.
So who among the Pinoy billionaires will bid to acquire PAGCOR?
Some say the Sy siblings with an estimated net worth of $14 billion are in the best position to purchase the gaming corporation. After all some of their SM malls already host PAGCOR’S BINGO parlors.
But nothing is set in stone. It boils down to who among the billionaires is willing to GAMBLE on this investment opportunity.
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Boycotts of Philippine banks seem to be the trend these days, and ex-Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon si no exception.
In protest of the passing of the Maharlika Investment Fund as certified a priority bill by President Bongbong Marcos, Gunzon rushed to her Land Bank branch in protest. (Land Bank is one of the financial institutions that will be tapped for the government’s wealth fund.)
She proudly posted her protest action through a selfie showing her Manager’s Check withdrawal.
We engaged the services of AI (Articifial Intelligence) to determine the amount she withdrew (she covered the amount with her fingers.
AI came back to us with an authenticated photos of the check. Guanzon withdrew NINE PESOS AND NINETY CENTAVOS.
That’s a big dent on Land Bank’s investment accounts!
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Saying many Filipinos do not understand anything about the newly-passed bill, Maharlika Investment Fund, Senator Robin Padilla is proposing a Filipino translation of the measure and all accompanying documents.
Padilla also wants to come up with a comic book to explain MIF to the masses.
The Senator said that if former political candidates Mar Roxas and Leni Robredo can produce their campaign comic books to reach as many voters as possible, “why can’t we ‘komikize’ the MIF?”
He added that Filipinos look up to their comic book heroes so a Maharlika comic book will peak their interest in the complicated financial bill.
