BAGUIO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Baguio Bureau) – No ‘persona non grata’ declaration could stop drag artist Pura Luka Vega from doing what he does best: impersonating various characters.
Vega was the object of the ire of many Filipinos for his drag act dressed as Jesus Christ, singing along to a rock rendition of “Ama Namin” (The Lord’s Prayer).
Since then, the real-life Amadeus Fernando Pagente has been declared persona non grata in Manila, General Santos City, Floridablanca in Pampanga, Toboso in Negros Occidental, Nueva Ecija province, Bukidnon province, and Cagayan de Oro City.
Pagente was spotted at Session Road in Baguio City, during the weekly Cosplay Sunday where residents and tourists dress up in their favorite characters.
The controversial drag queen was seen dressed as a nun, along with a friend. No one recognized him — proof that those persona non grata declarations have no effect. He could go as any character he chooses.
Baguio City, so far, has not issued a declaration of the mere symbolic and non-binding persona non grata against Pagente.
