QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Quezon City Bureau) – During the 2022 Philippine presidential campaign, then candidate and Vice President Leni Robredo portrayed herself as a very dedicated public servant, working 18 hours a day, every day.
Well, it turns out she lied. She herself said it.
In a speech at the University of the Philippines, Robredo admitted she worked Monday to Friday, during regular work hours at the Public Attorney’s Office. (Work hours at government offices is 8am to 5pm, with an hour’s break for lunch. Offices are closed Saturdays and Sundays.)
MANILA,Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The Movie and Television Ratings and Classification Board (MTRCB) has just launched a new campaign it is calling “Responsableng Panonood” (Responsible Viewing).
The campaign is in accordance with the goal of President Bongbong Marcos to promote media and information literacy in the country, and it aims to raise awareness and encourage viewers to engage in responsible viewing habits.
The campaign launch ironically comes on the same day that MTRCB summoned the producers of GTV’s noon-time show “It’s Showtime” for alleged indecent acts by hosts Vice Ganda and real-life partner Ion Perez. The couple was seen on national TV finger-licking some cake icing in front of young children.
Well and good, but shouldn’t MTRCB’s priority be a campaign on “Responsableng Pagpapalabas” (Responsible Showing) to put television networks and shows on notice to adhere to the agency’s guidelines against indecency, insensitivity and corruption of minds of minors?
MALOLOS, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Malolos Bureau) – There is no doubt super typhoon Egay caused extensive damage and inconvenience in many parts of Luzon. But resilient Filipinos are always thankful for positive consequences brought about by natural calamities.
In Malolos, Bulacan province, the flooding caused by Egay has created tourism opportunities in this historic town. ( Malolos is the historical site of the constitutional convention of 1898 that led to the establishment of the First Philippine Republic.)
Kayaking has become its latest industry and Filipinos and tourists alike who could not make it to the famous Boracay resort island now have a viable and enjoyable alternative.
Local officials are seriously considering renaming the province Boracan.
