
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It is very rare to see government programs achieve a 100% success rate. Even the administration of Philippine President Bongbong Marcos realizes that.
Marcos recently announced the Philippines will achieve 97.55% rice sufficiency in five years. That means 2.45% of Filipinos will still go hungry, at least as far as the national staple of the country is concerned.
But look to the good side. The 2.5% insufficiency will leave some room for private traders engaged in rice importation to keep their business alive. It will also make the job of the next president easier — minus 2.5% is not that far off from 100%
