MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Fresh from its celebration of its 50th founding anniversary, the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) filed a lawsuit against a gay group that allegedly stole its name.
The lawsuit stems from violation of Republic Act No. 8293, known as the Intellectual Property Act which protects property rights of registered trademarks in the Philippines.
KBP (the broadcast entity) accused the gay group of trademark infringement when the latter named its organization KBP: Kapisanan ng mga Beki sa Pilipinas.
Preliminary investigation of the charges are ongoing.
