MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Potential Presidential candidates aligned with President Rodrigo Duterte will face tough competition come the 2022 Presidential elections, thanks to a new Opposition Coalition spearheaded by former Chief Justice Antonio Carpio.

Carpio claims that they have talked to many people, left and right. “It’s a broad coalition,” he says.

In media interviews, Carpio also assured the Filipino people that the coalition will only include and endorse competent people. “So that excludes Senator Manny Pacquiao,” he added.

The new coalition has chosen a very catchy name: 1SAMPAYAN, translated as “one clothesline.”

Rappler CEO Maria Ressa immediately reacted to the news and promised full support for the coalition. “We will hold the line,” she said.
