QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Quezon City Bureau) – They’re supposed to be allies, but one is now ridiculing the other for flimsy, clothing issues.
The University of the Philippines (UP) and the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) are both known for breeding activists and are the poster schools for student protests.
But when PUP students launched a protest against a new dress code and staged a mass activity throwing out their clothes from the university’s upper floors, UP students laughed it off.
“When we protest, we take all our clothes off,” a UP student leader said. He was referring to the annual Oblation Run in which members of a fraternity run around the campus naked to protest national issues.
In response, a PUP student leader said the naked run is nothing that UP can be proud of. “It’s all hype: lots of small thingy’s and masked and ashamed faces “ he said.
