UPDATING: The Supreme Court voted 9-6 in favor of Senator Grace Poe.  This means she is eligible to run for president of the Philippines.

MANILA, Philippines  (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The Philippines’ Supreme Court is set to deliberate tomorrow and possibly decide on Senator Grace Poe’s petition questioning her disqualification by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) from the presidential race.

The Comelec had previously ruled that Poe is not qualified to run for president because she is a foundling and has not established her being a natural-born citizen.  The Comelec ruling also claims that Poe does not have the required residency requirement for presidential candidates.

Poll after poll shows the senator at the top of Filipino voters’ list of who they want to succeed President NoyNoy Aquino.

In anticipation of tomorrow’s ruling, Poe’s supporters and those who are against the candidacies of former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas, Vice President Jejomar Binay, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Mirian Defensor-Santiago are reportedly organizing to hold yet another People’s Power march along EDSA, should the Supreme Court rule against Poe.

EDSA (Epifanio De Los Santos Avenue) has been the site of the first People’s Power Revolution that ousted the late Ferdinand E. Marcos. Subsequent People’s Power marches (we can no longer keep count) were staged against former Presidents Joseph Estrada, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and incumbent NoyNoy Aquino.

Tomorrow’s anticipated Supreme Court ruling comes  right on the heels of International Women’s Day.  Tomorrow’s march is expected to be participated in, and dominated by, women.

The Adobo Chronicles  will be reporting live from EDSA.

Mar Roxas Says Makati City Is Now So Yellow, Shows Proof

imageMAKATI CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Despite consistently being fourth in national polls, former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas says that he is very confident he will be elected next president of the Philippines.

In a recent statement, Roxas said that even Makati City, known to be the bailiwick of Vice President Jejomar Binay, is “now very yellow,” referring to the color of the Liberal Party under which he is running.

Reacting to Roxas’ comment, Binay who is former mayor of Makati and whose wife and children have ruled Makati for over a decade, just laughed it off. “Ano siya, hilo?” he said (What is he, dazed and confused?).

To prove his point , the Roxas campaign released a photograph recentlly taken of Makati, complete with its skyline and the shanties that line its perimeter.  The photos shows a yellowed-out city seen through the eyes and camera lenses of the Liberal Party.

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham Endorses Hillary Clinton

COLUMBIA, South Carolina (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) –  Republican Senator Lindsey Graham today officially endorsed Hillary Clinton to be the next president of the United States.

The former presidential candidate from South Carolina surprised both Democrats and Republicans with his announcement as he made a scathing criticism of GOP frontrunners Donald Trump and Ted Cruz, as well as Democrat Bernie Sanders, Clinton’s main rival for the Democratic nomination.

Graham compared the choice between Trump and Cruz “like  being shot or poisoned.” He added, “It scares the hell out of me. Donald Trump, I think, is the most unprepared person I’ve ever met to be commander in chief, and when it comes to Sen. Cruz, he’s exhibited behavior in his time in the Senate that make it impossible for me to believe that he could bring this country together.”

At the same time, Graham called Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders, a self-identified socialist, “by far the most liberal person to ever offer themselves as a candidate in a serious fashion for president of the United States.” In Bernie’s world, the big banks are out to get you and rich people are screwing the system so you don’t have a chance,” Graham said.

When Graham suspended his presidential campaign, he endorsed former Florida Governor Jeb Bush who now has also quit the race.

With Clinton being the only other remaining presidential candidate Graham did not mention or criticize, it goes without saying that he is endorsing her.

It’s “crossing the aisle” in Washington, Graham style!
