MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – After so much speculation, Bongbong Marcos, son of the late Ferdinand Marcos, has finally declared that he is running to become Vice President of the Philippines.
He is not affiliated with any of the political parties that are fielding candidates for the 2016 elections, which begs the question, is he reviving his father’s Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (Movement for a New Society), or KBL?
Judging from who was by his side when he made the announcement of his candidacy, the younger Marcos seems to have signaled the return of KBL, the ruling — and practically the only – political party during the Martial Law years.
There was his mother Imelda Romualdez Marcos, former President and now Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada, and Ferdinand Marcos’ Defense Secretary and now Senator Juan Ponce Enrile.
Among the three of them, their combined ages add to a total of 255 years, prompting critics to speculate that the “new” KBL will stand for Kilusan Bangon Libingan (Movement for Rising from the Grave).
If the young Marcos’ age is added to the total, it would almost be equal to the three centuries that Spain colonized the Philippines.
