NEW INTERNET DOMAIN NAME TO DEBUT IN THE PHILIPPINES: DOT PB

dot comManila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – When customers want to find a business, whether it’s a local restaurant or a global retailer, the Web is the place where they first look. Domain names make it easy for customers to find items or services on the Internet.

Most domain names end with the suffix dot com or dot net.  Many countries use the suffix dot gov to make it easier for citizens and constituents to find agencies or information pertaining to the government.  Still, many countries also use a suffix that easily identifies where a web site originates or where it is located – like dot PH for Philippines, dot UK for the United Kingdom or dot AU for Australia.

Today, the Philippines’ National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) announced that it has approved a new domain name and suffix for the country: dot PB (dot Pork Barrel).  It has deemed necessary the creation of this new domain because capacity is running out for dot PH and dot gov.  But more importantly, the NTC says that there is a large enough clientele and users for this special suffix because almost all branches of the Philippine government – Executive, Legislative, Judicial – have been involved or implicated in the widespread pork barrel scandal in the country.  Even the Catholic Church appears to have benefited from taxpayer funds that were siphoned into personal accounts of politicians, fake nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and ghost projects.

In no time, Filipinos will see web addresses and domain names such as www.Senate.pb , www.MakatiMayor.pb,   or www.PNoy.pb.

Welcome to the expanding world of the Internet!
