PHILIPPINES DISQUALIFIED FROM BEAUTY PAGEANTS FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS

UPDATED – The ban on Filipina candidates to International beauty competitions has been extended for another two years, following the recent crowning of two Filipinas as ‘Miss Globe’ (Ann Lorraine Colis)  and ‘Miss Earth’ (Angela Ong).

The following story was from 2013:

Bangkok, Thailand – After today’s fourth-place finish of Annalie Forbes, the Philippines’ representative to the Miss Grand International Beauty Pageant in Bangkok, Thailand, the  Association of Beauty Pageant Franchise Holders (ABPFH) has banned the Philippines from future international beauty competitions, citing “enormous advantage” by Filipina candidates in practically all pageants this year.

The  disqualification will be in effect for two years.

The Philippines holds the distinction of having won the title in all major beauty competitions like Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss International.  Additionally, every new international beauty competition has seen a Filipina winning the title or placing in the top 5.  Earlier this year, Mutya Datul won the 2013 Miss Supranational Pageant.

Forbes is the fourth Filipino to make it to the top 5 in competitions this year. Megan Young, of course, bagged the 2013 Miss World title this year, the first-ever for the Philippines.  Before Young, Evangeline Pascual reached the finals and was first runner-up in 1973 while Ruffa Gutierrez was second runner-up in 1993.

Ariella Arida, the country’s bet in the 2013 Miss Universe Pageant in Moscow, Russia, placed fourth.

Other Filipina beauties who have won international titles include Gloria Diaz and Margie Moran (Miss Universe) and Gemma Cruz, Mimilanie Marquez, Aurora Pijuan, and Precious Lara Quigaman (Miss International). Karla Henry won the Miss Earth title in 2008.

In 2010, 2011 and 2012, the Philippines’  Venus Raj, Shamcey Supsup and Janine Tugonon were all in the top 5 in the Miss Universe competition.

ABPFH said that it is time for the Philippines to give other countries the chance to win international beauty competitions, adding that “the world already knows how beautiful and talented Filipinas are.”

  1. @ Ruby, yes English is a universal language but English is not the only language in this world. When you are representing your country, it includes your language. Many people in this world are not so comfortable and confident speaking another language ( English ) because they don’t really use it on a daily basis. They have their own language and they put so much pride in their language so why disqualify them just because they speak their own language ? Filipinos should also use their own language to show their own culture.

    1. Yes you’re right about pride of the country and their own language they have but english is the universal language that the contestants need to speak and use, when she represent the tittle she have won during the one year contract duties they may do understanding jeopardizes missions or jobs as you may know…..

Ps; Which among the hundreds of Filipino language would you like our contestant to use???? Please know the history of the Philippines so you’ll know what you’re talking about!!!!!!

      1. I definitely know what I am talking about. Most countries are not really exposed to the English language. Why ? Because their countries were not colonised by the UK or America. Filipinos got exposed to English because America took over. If America didn’t take over, Filipinos would still be speaking Spanish as their ” Foreign language ” and not English. In other countries, their medium of instruction in schools is their own language, their Media is using their own language that even English movies are all dubbed in their own language. In business, it is still their own language. So you see, there is no way for them to be exposed to English. They may be exposed to the language of their neighbouring countries like Brasil might be exposed to Spanish since the rest of South America speak Spanish and Portuguese anc Spanish are intelligible same for the rest of South America that their only exposure is Brasilian Portuguese. In Spain, France, Italy, their movies are all dubbed in their own language as well. For these countries, learning and speaking English is like Filipinos learning Chinese. Imagine how hard it would be for Filipinos to learn Chinese since it is totally very foreign to Filipinos… This is the equivalent of learning English in countries that do not have English exposure or countries that were not colonised by the UK or America and Filipinos should learn this and stop being prejudice to people who cannot speak English because not everyone can.

    1. If you think Philippines has proven to consistently win top posts in all international beauty pageants ever since and where no country has paralleled so far then let ABPFH file petition to all International beauty pageant organizers to stop the search or else proclaim Philippines as “UNBEATABLE” thus deserves exemption and not disqualification. Make sure you know how to use the word DISQUALIFICATION-this simply means a restriction or elimination from a competition imposed against a candidate who doesn’t meet basic requirements. Gets?

  5. Candidates must know how to speak English. How can they communicate to other people? Do they bring their interpreters where ever they go? Philippines doesn’t need interpreters and their beauty is not fake.

    1. Most countries put so much pride on their own language… Something that Filipinos would never understand because just look at how much English is praised in the Philippines. Look at how Filipinos speak, do they speak their own language fluently ? No ! They always tend to mix it with English and most countries do not do this.

  10. It’s funny how people reacted. It’s true that only a few will understand that this is satirical. I have to give credit to the people behind this site though, you make it sound almost believable that people react so harshly to your article- And to those who found these articles funny (and actually understood the tone slash content) good job.

Those who expressed their disappointment on this (obviously fake) matter, well at least you guys showed your support for your fellow Pinays. BUT CALM DOWN OKAY. A satire news is definitely not worthy of a heart failure 😉

Para klaro lang… alam siguro natin lahat that this article is a satirical piece? I hope so!

  16. What a shame. Most readers don’t even know what “satire” means. They just want themselves be heard, as always. Kaya maraming naniniwala sa sabi-sabi at pinapakalat na news, regardless if the source was reliable or not. Though I must say that this is a good article- a more effective one, even. I wouldn’t expect much expressive and active readers if the news would plainly state that we have just won another title. Nice work.

  17. are they talking of beauty pageantry as a competition or as something that should be even distributed? if it is a competition, then why ban a country just cos they produce beautiful people? maybe they are talking about opposite of beauty, a new pageantry in search of ugly people maybe.

Why these comments so serious? You do know how to use search engine, like GOOGLE. Try to search “Satirical Websites” as advise many times by X. Don’t be so gullible. This is a site made just for FUN, seems you don’t know how even to smirk, smile or any facial expression as a result of FUN.

  24. I guess they should learn to choose who will be their best candidate to join this kind of beauty contest with natural beauty and with brain. Not an individual who undergo plastic surgery. Every title has their own requirements and qualifications. I feel sorry to the person who banned Philippines for joining this kind of competition. Sound so pathetic. LOL.. If Philippines will be banned for two years, are they are sure their candidates will make it on TOP 5? 😀
