PHILIPPINES DISQUALIFIED FROM BEAUTY PAGEANTS FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS

UPDATED – The ban on Filipina candidates to International beauty competitions has been extended for another two years, following the recent crowning of two Filipinas as ‘Miss Globe’ (Ann Lorraine Colis)  and ‘Miss Earth’ (Angela Ong).

The following story was from 2013:

Bangkok, Thailand – After today’s fourth-place finish of Annalie Forbes, the Philippines’ representative to the Miss Grand International Beauty Pageant in Bangkok, Thailand, the  Association of Beauty Pageant Franchise Holders (ABPFH) has banned the Philippines from future international beauty competitions, citing “enormous advantage” by Filipina candidates in practically all pageants this year.

The  disqualification will be in effect for two years.

The Philippines holds the distinction of having won the title in all major beauty competitions like Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss International.  Additionally, every new international beauty competition has seen a Filipina winning the title or placing in the top 5.  Earlier this year, Mutya Datul won the 2013 Miss Supranational Pageant.

Forbes is the fourth Filipino to make it to the top 5 in competitions this year. Megan Young, of course, bagged the 2013 Miss World title this year, the first-ever for the Philippines.  Before Young, Evangeline Pascual reached the finals and was first runner-up in 1973 while Ruffa Gutierrez was second runner-up in 1993.

Ariella Arida, the country’s bet in the 2013 Miss Universe Pageant in Moscow, Russia, placed fourth.

Other Filipina beauties who have won international titles include Gloria Diaz and Margie Moran (Miss Universe) and Gemma Cruz, Mimilanie Marquez, Aurora Pijuan, and Precious Lara Quigaman (Miss International). Karla Henry won the Miss Earth title in 2008.

In 2010, 2011 and 2012, the Philippines’  Venus Raj, Shamcey Supsup and Janine Tugonon were all in the top 5 in the Miss Universe competition.

ABPFH said that it is time for the Philippines to give other countries the chance to win international beauty competitions, adding that “the world already knows how beautiful and talented Filipinas are.”

  3. This should never happen! Philippines is one of those countries that doesn’t use its own language in a question and answer part. You should know that! And besides, this is in fact a competition not a game that you can just disqualify players! This is BIAS ! :X

Maybe you need to research your Family Tree! I still think you’re a wonderful person. Filipino or not you deserve to represent what you believe in. Mabuhay!

  8. just to inform everybody, please look up the word “satire” in the dictionary. If the word comes out on the right column of an article in a site (i. e. this site, adobochronicles.com), please perceive the formal style and tone of the article is just the way a satire delivers its humor.

  11. This is ridiculous and stupid. There were seasons where no filipina made it even in the top 10 or 15 semi-finalists. This is not a case of giving a chance to others. This is a pageant. Whoever thought of this is simply annoying and irritating.

  14. Though PH wins Multiple Beauty Pageant over the past years, Its not fair that you will ban PH for future pageant. Pageant is Still Competition, Some will win and Some will lose… Its a matter of luck Or Just like the article said “the world already knows how beautiful and talented Filipinas are.”

  15. How about the other Latin Countries like Miss Venezuela? They almost always win pageant competitions. They even have Miss Universe University.

  16. Lol… this is a hoax. Why shouldn’t they ban Venezuela?.. they are the one’s who are winning most of the crowns 😀 And besides., I think, our candidates gets to top 5 because most of the people watching and cheering for them at the pageant night are kababayans. Don’t you think so?

    1. Contestants from most Latin American countries are not Amerindians – they are descendants of Spanish and other European immigrants. So are others from most countries like the USA, India, Malaysia, Thailand, Canada, Israel, etc. Why single-out the Philippines? Some European countries even send candidates with Filipino blood…

    2. As long as your carrying Philippine passport and declared that your a Filipino under your passport anyone is entitled to be Filipino citizenship whether full blooded or not means they are Filipino citizen. never the less all candidates shouldn’t be joining / competing any beauty pageant as most of the candidates in this generations are not full blooded under their nationality anyways, they are all mixed! lolnegeria that irrelevant! – Filipino with Filipino citizenship are full Filipino. further more most of our contestants are mostly full blooded Filipinos if not then that’s not our problem.

      1. LOL! how about Venezuela? They won/were (Crowned) Miss Universe 3 times in the span of 9 yrs, but Philippines always just a runners up. Its just happened that Philippines won in Ms. World and Supra National for the first time and place runner ups in Ms. Universe and Miss Grand International Beauty Pageant which only happened just this year (2013), but that doesn’t mean we should stop cos we need Miss Universe crown too…#greed 😀 http://i.imgur.com/wkCSI3w.png

    2. Lol its a bit narrow minded of you, its a known fact that Philippines is a huge melting pot of different genetics and races. People come here from all over, their babies are born, then raised with Filipino values, Im’ Filipino, but doesn’t look like one bec. of my Spanish and Japanese descent, but that doesn’t mean I am not Filipino into the slightest, I think look has nothing to do with you nationality.

  19. This is unfair. What if Philippines won many times? This is a competition. Can you just please? Accept the fact that Filipinas are trying their best to win. And after all of this, you’ll disqualified the Philippines in entering the Pageants? Oh crap! What’s with that issue? What if Philippies won or are in in the top 5? Justice with this issue please!
