PHILIPPINES DISQUALIFIED FROM BEAUTY PAGEANTS FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS

UPDATED – The ban on Filipina candidates to International beauty competitions has been extended for another two years, following the recent crowning of two Filipinas as ‘Miss Globe’ (Ann Lorraine Colis)  and ‘Miss Earth’ (Angela Ong).

The following story was from 2013:

Bangkok, Thailand – After today’s fourth-place finish of Annalie Forbes, the Philippines’ representative to the Miss Grand International Beauty Pageant in Bangkok, Thailand, the  Association of Beauty Pageant Franchise Holders (ABPFH) has banned the Philippines from future international beauty competitions, citing “enormous advantage” by Filipina candidates in practically all pageants this year.

The  disqualification will be in effect for two years.

The Philippines holds the distinction of having won the title in all major beauty competitions like Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss International.  Additionally, every new international beauty competition has seen a Filipina winning the title or placing in the top 5.  Earlier this year, Mutya Datul won the 2013 Miss Supranational Pageant.

Forbes is the fourth Filipino to make it to the top 5 in competitions this year. Megan Young, of course, bagged the 2013 Miss World title this year, the first-ever for the Philippines.  Before Young, Evangeline Pascual reached the finals and was first runner-up in 1973 while Ruffa Gutierrez was second runner-up in 1993.

Ariella Arida, the country’s bet in the 2013 Miss Universe Pageant in Moscow, Russia, placed fourth.

Other Filipina beauties who have won international titles include Gloria Diaz and Margie Moran (Miss Universe) and Gemma Cruz, Mimilanie Marquez, Aurora Pijuan, and Precious Lara Quigaman (Miss International). Karla Henry won the Miss Earth title in 2008.

In 2010, 2011 and 2012, the Philippines’  Venus Raj, Shamcey Supsup and Janine Tugonon were all in the top 5 in the Miss Universe competition.

ABPFH said that it is time for the Philippines to give other countries the chance to win international beauty competitions, adding that “the world already knows how beautiful and talented Filipinas are.”

  1. It does not make any sense that Philippines has to be banned just because our fellow country-women hold places in almost every competition. Tell it to the Venezuelans. How come they hold the crown for Miss Universe almost every year? They should be banned too, if that is the case.

  9. A hoax i believe… REASONS: 1, all of the comments came from Filipinos, so i might conclude that this wasn’t an international statement. 2, the site first and foremost is a pseudo-journalism. Meaning it was made up, not approved. 3, after some research, i saw this http://www.theglobaldispatch.com/philippines-not-banned-from-future-beauty-contests-12892/… This is a lesson, before accepting doubt it first. Do some research then believe.

  12. LOL.. this is a satire article. kung sa tagalog pa, gawa gawa lang po.. kung totoo man to, sana gi banned na rin muna ang USA kasi sila as of the moment ang may pinakamaraming wins sa mga international beauty pageants..

    pero think of the bright side, kung mangyayari man to isipin nyo na lang as a comment kasi natatakot ang ibang bansa satin, kasi winner ang mga pinoy..

  20. Disqualified for cheating. What a sore loser. It’s so unfair that we’re banned for two years just because we’re winning a lot of awards…. This is so bullshit. Any other country would be just as mad if this happened to them.

  22. This is so pathetic….Why Philippines? I mean, there are a lot of times that Venezuela, India, Brazil, Spain conquered the beauty pageantry. Why is it that Philippines is on the hot seat? We cant blame the handlers of these beautiful Filipinas who represent our country in various beauty pageant since that we actually prepare for it. And the country itself has the support to its representative and people do love to support each representative because that’s how we love our country. We do excel because we work hard for it. Aside to that Filipinas are truly beautiful inside and out plus they’re very talented and witty. Why blame us? Every pageant has its own criteria and board of judges to choose whether a Filipina deserves to be on top. Make sense?

  25. i think that is not a Valid decision. e Bakit sa Olympic ang nananalo palagi ay United States , Russia and Germany. bakit hindi nila ito dini disqualified ? hindi naman basta basta ang pagsali sa Miss Universe or any Beauty Pageant. ( Hundred of Contestants from different provinces of the Philippines has to compete and undergo to a process of eliminations ) and they all have to prepare themselves. kung manalo man ang philippines sa Contest is maybe because we are well prepared sa beauty Contest. so i think there is something wrong with the picture here.

  40. its just too unfair even in beauty pageants they will implement racial discrimination, ad it is nothing but a showcase of talent, intelligence, and beauty… we won fair and square we filipinas are proud of it, you should do charity if you want to give chance for other country and not a competition/pageant.

  41. insecure!! me ganun! kasalanan ba natin na maraming magaganda sa pilipinas at talented pa…e di wag nilang panalunin kung yun ang masarap sa dibdib nila pero d nila maitatago ang paghanga ng nila sa pinay beauty…eto pa may criteriang sinusunod lahat dun pumapasok ang ang mga kandidato natin hayyy…
