Duterte Denial?

Oh, Rodrigo Duterte, the self-proclaimed “ordinary citizen” who just can’t resist the allure of power and the spotlight. It’s adorable how he’s just like you and me, casually demanding audits and pressuring government agencies and the military, as any “ordinary” citizen would.  (No he is not advocating for a coup!)

Who needs expertise or due process when you can just flex your political muscles?

Duterte’s post-presidential adventures are like watching a retired circus lion trying to perform tricks from its retirement home. He may no longer be in the presidential chair, but he’s still very much in the driver’s seat, steering his loyal followers towards a delusional road trip down Denial Lane. Apparently, the title “ex-president” doesn’t sit well with him, and he’d rather pull strings from behind the scenes.

But hey, let’s not be too hard on him; after all, who can resist the siren call of pork barrel funds and auditing authorities? It’s just the kind of “ordinary citizen” stuff we all do, right?

Commentary: Barangay and SK Elections, A Low-Tech Friendster?

Ah, the Barangay and SK elections are upon us once again, a true spectacle of democratic extravagance! With nearly 400,000 positions up for grabs and a staggering bill of P5 billion, it’s clear that our local politics is a high-stakes game of thrones. 

But one must wonder, what’s the siren call for these positions, given the meager salaries (P1K a month for Barangay captains and P600 a month for Kagawads)?

Is it the dream of unlocking that mystical treasury chest at the Department of the Interior and Local Government, or perhaps the allure of congressional pork barrel?

Sure, there are commendable barangays out there, but what about the others? Are they just making their way through the motions while savoring the scent of power and influence? 

These questions may never be answered, but as the campaign period kicks off, brace yourselves for a parade of newfound “friends” and neighbors, eager to shake hands, share promises, and seize the keys to the kingdom. After all, in politics, it’s not about the money; it’s about the thrill of the chase, the taste of authority, and the sweet symphony of campaign jingles echoing through our streets.

And how do these Barangay positions compare to the Partylists? Oh, let’s talk about it in a future forum!
