Manananggal Sighting In Bohol!

TAGBILARAN, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Tagbilaran Bureau) – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is on a roll sighting legendary birds and, well, part-humans!

Just hours after it announced the sighting of ‘Ibong Adarna’ in Mount Apo, DENR revealed that it has sighted a manananggal over parts of Bohol province.

The manananggal is a Philippine legendary creature that primarily preys on pregnant women in the middle of the night when they are asleep. It uses its elongated tongue to suck out the woman’s blood or the heart of her fetus. It has the ability to sever its upper torso from its lower torso and sprout huge wings that resemble bat wings, which it uses to fly through the sky and search for its next victim.

A security guard at the DENR office in Tagbilaran took a snap shot of the flying creature.

DENR regional officials have expressed concern that the blood-sucking creature might prey on Bohol’s tarsiers.

Leni Robredo Proposes Foam Balls For Lato-Lato

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Just hours after being called out for a video clip showing her playing with lato-lato, ex-Vice President Leni Robredo apologized and proposed a new design for the popular toy.

Also known as ‘clackers,’ the toy is made of two plastic spheres suspended on a single string which makes a loud clacking sound when swung up and down.

Philippine authorities have warned against the dangers of lato-lato, including injury to inexperienced players. Some are calling for a total ban because of the annoying noise the toys produce. Already, a Barangay in Old Balara in Quezon City has issued an ordinance banning the sale and use of the lato.

Robredo is proposing to lato manufacturers to use foam balls instead. This will not only prevent injury but also eliminate unnerving noise the toy produces.

‘Ibong Adarna’ Spotted In Mount Apo An Impostor!

DAVAO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – ‘Ibong adarna’ was spotted in the tropical forest of the Philippines’ highest mountain Mount Apo, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Davao region said on Friday, July 14.

Ibong Adarna also known as The Adarna Bird, is a 16th-century Filipino epic poem that centers around a magical bird of the same name. The narrative focuses on the lives of King Fernando, Queen Valeriana, and their three sons: Don Pedro, Diego, and Juan. Upon learning of their father’s incurable illness, the three princes embark on a quest to find the legendary Adarna bird, whose healing powers can save their father.

But when DENR released snap shots, many noticed that the bird spotted in Mount Apo was a far cry from the legendary Ibong Adarna.

Did DENR make much ado about nothing, or was the bird potted in Mount Apo an impostor?
