The Internet is abuzz with criticism over Jo Koy’s hosting of the Golden Globe Awards. Apparently, the bar for hosting awards shows is now set so high that even seasoned comedians can’t reach it without a ladder. But let’s not forget that hosting these ceremonies is a bit like walking a tightrope over a pool of hungry piranhas – one misstep and you’re fish food. 

Sure, Jo Koy may not have delivered punchlines with the precision of a Swiss watch, but can we cut the guy some slack? Hollywood, the bastion of inclusivity, should be doing cartwheels at the sight of a Filipino-American comedian taking the stage. It’s a tough crowd out there, and it’s not like previous hosts have all been comedic messiahs. After all, who needs flawless hosting when you can have the spectacle of a Will Smith slapping an Oscars host? 

And whatever happened to Hollywood’s constant cry of people of color representation?
