Commentary: Anonymously Yours, Politique PH

The fast-rising Internet high-society page sensation, “Politique PH” has been tagged by detractors as “That Anonymous Page,” as if anonymity threatens their very existence.

Politique PH is turning into a thorn on the side of many celebrities, politicians and self-proclaimed political pundits who prefer their discourse to be one-sided, fawning and humorless.

Politique uses wit, sarcasm and colorful language to express alternative viewpoints and its use of anonymity just adds an extra layer of intrigue and annoyance for those who prefer political discourse to be as bland and predictable as yesterday’s rice. It’s as if anonymity is some sort of nefarious activity.

Of course, these same critics conveniently ignore the fact that there’s an international group called “Anonymous” operating in the shadows of the  Internet, pulling off world-changing feats like hacking into the most secure government databases, all while using the same name.

We don’t have to leave the Philippines either. Prior to being exposed by Thinking Pinoy, Jover Laurio was basking in her imaginary glory under the name “Pinoy Ako Blog.” (Incidentally, a local court has ordered Thinking Pinoy, a.k.a. RJ Nieto to pay Laurio damages for violating her privacy.)

So march on, dear cowering cry babies.  Leave Politique PH alone and just enjoy her company while she sips her chamomile  tea!
