MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Underscoring the need for a unified effort to fight fake news and disinformation on news and social media, President Bongbong Marcos has granted an unconditional pardon to Rappler, Leni Robredo and other purveyors of lies about the Philippines.
The presidential pardon is contained in Executive Order 69, issued just minutes after Marcos delivered his speech at the launching of a multi-agency information literacy campaign.
Rappler was pardoned for its continuous spread of disinformation and hate through its news reports and vlogs — and includes Maria Ressa and her Rapplerettes. Robredo was absolved of the big lie she, as then Vice President, presented in a video message to the United Nations about “palit ulo” (head substitution) and other misinformation about the Philippines’ war on drugs.
Others given the presidential pardon were vloggers Raissa Robles, Jover Laurio and Bb. Maharlika, The Inquirer, and News 5.
‘Together, let us fight for the truth and nothing but,” Marcos said.
