MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Filipinos need Identification Cards to operate vehicles, avail of senior/PWD discounts, open bank accounts or show proof of any form of legal status.
So why not an ID to certify that one’s legality to drink alcohol, whether in a bar or to purchase it at 7-Eleven?
Enter Senator Robin Padilla.
Today he filed a bill to establish a national ID program that would identify those of legal age to drink alcohol.
In his bill, Padilla says bartenders and sales personnel must be presented with the Drinking ID of customers in order to serve or sell alcohol anywhere in the Philippines.
Padilla said the program will not cost the government anything because the IDs will be sponsored by San Miguel Corporation, Ginebra and other alcohol companies.
Let’s drink to that!
