MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – President Bongbong Marcos has finally stepped into the controversy over the U.S. request for the Philippines to temporarily host Afghan refugees.
The U.S. request comes on the heels of U.S. Congress failing to pass the bill that would grant protections and a path to citizenship to the refugees.
Marcos sent a note verbale to the U.S. Embassy in Manila setting the condition for accepting Afghan refugees.
The condition?
That all Filipino TNTs (Tago ng Tago, or those in hiding from U.S. Immigration authorities) currently in the United States be immediately and automatically given green cards.
No response as yet from the U.S. government.
