DAVAO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Filipino activists protesting President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s decision to allow the burial of Ferdinand E. Marcos in Libingan Ng Mga Bayani (National Heroes’ Cemetery) are in a waiting mode.
They are waiting for a decision from the Supreme Court on whether or not the remains of the former strongman president will be allowed internment at LNMB.
But already, these activists have laid out plans to undertake similar protests when the time comes for Duterte to be laid to rest at LNMB.
Well, Duterte is not going to give them that opportunity. He has announced that he is not interested in being buried at the heroes’ cemetery.
Instead, the president wants to be buried beside his parents, Vicente and Soledad, in Davao City.
“There is no greater honor for me than to be laid to rest beside my mother and father,” he told reporters in Davao City when he visited his family’s mausoleum on All Saints’ Day.
He rejected the idea of being buried at Libingan ng mga Bayani, the cemetery reserved for former Presidents, soldiers and heroes.
So, the activists will need to find another person to protest against in as far as the LNMB is concerned. What a disappointment!
