MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Ex-President NoyNoy Aquino threw his first jab at President Rod Duterte today by asking the latter to fulfill his promise that he would jet ski to a disputed island occupied by China and personally stake the Philippines’ claims over disputed territory in the West Philippine Sea.

Aquino made the challenge just weeks after the United Nations-backed Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague ruled in favor of the Philippines in a territorial case brought before it.

“Was it just one of your empty campaign promises? ” asked Aquino, whose bet Mar Roxas lost the election to Duterte.

In response, Duterte asked Aquino: “What about your promise to let yourself be run over by a train?”

Duterte was referring to a promise made by Aquino in 2o13 that he was ready to be run over by a train if the LRT (Light Rail Transit) Line 1 project from Baclaran to Bacoor will not be completed in two years. To this day, the railway project remains unfinished.

Well, Duterte has six years to make good on his promise. But Aquino’s deadline has come and gone.
