MAKATI CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Filipino voters are wondering why there seems to be an eerie silence on the part of Vice President Jojo Binay’s camp. In contrast, his presidential rivals are not only busy traversing the country for last-minute appeals to the voters before the May 9 elections; they have also been hurling accusations against each other, ranging from hidden bank accounts to vote-buying.
The Adobo Chronicles caught up with the vice president on his way to playing a round of golf at the Wack Wack Gold & Country Club in Mandaluyong.
We asked him why he hasn’t been seen in public since his last campaign appearance with senatorial candidate Alma Moreno, where he was video-taped dancing on stage with the with Moreno and making fun of the actress’ breasts.
Binay told us that he is done with campaigning. He is very confident that he will be elected the next president.
“I take the Office of the President very seriously, and I’m spending the rest of the campaign period in seclusion, writing my inaugural speech which I want to be remembered not just in the Philippines but around the world.
He volunteered to provide us with the title of his speech: “Mayroon Akong Panaginip,” which is patterned after Martin Luther King’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech.
Perhaps, when the polls close on Monday, Binay will eventually wake up from his dream.
