ANDERSON COOPER APPOINTED U.S. AMBASSADOR TO THE PHILIPPINES

Washington, D.C. – President Barack Obama has nominated CNN’s Anderson Cooper to be the next U.S. ambassador to the Philippines. The White House announcement on the nomination came on the heels of Cooper’s live reporting on the aftermath of super typhoon Haiyan which has devastated many cities and towns in Central Philippines. He is the host of the popular CNN news program, AC 360. His reports from Tacloban, the worst-hit among the cities in the province of Leyte, gained both praise and criticism.
Many Filipinos, including expatriates from all over the world, have praised Cooper’s early coverage of the devastation in Tacloban and the Philippine government’s rescue and relief efforts which he described as lacking in coordination and clear strategy. On the other hand, Cooper earned the ire of Philippine President Noynoy Aquino who asked for “greater accuracy” in reporting on his government’s relief efforts and to focus on the strong spirit of the Filipino people in facing this calamity. Cooper responded on his news program that accuracy has been his hallmark as a journalist and that his reporting had always pointed to the enormous strength and fighting spirit of the Filipino people.
A Filipino news anchor, Korina Sanchez, speaking from her air-conditioned broadcast studio in Manila, also criticized Cooper for his reporting on the government’s less than stellar response to the needs of Haiyan survivors. Sanchez said Cooper did not know what he was talking about. Cooper then challenged Sanchez to do her own reporting at “ground zero” in Tacloban. Sanchez is the wife of Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas who is supposed to lead government relief and rescue operations.
In nominating Cooper, Obama said that the CNN journalist is fully qualified for the job and brings with him extensive knowledge and experience with political, social and other issues plaguing foreign governments, including the Philippines. Obama said that Cooper has also proven himself to be fearless, independent, and sensitive to the interest and needs of both the U.S. and its long-time ally the Philippines.
There seems to be bipartisan support in the Senate for Cooper’s nomination. That in itself is a rarity in America.

Even if it’s only a joke, he certainly does not deserve it. Why the adulation for this guy. As far as I know, he came here as a media reporter of CNN and all he did was critcized everything what our govt. did not do. He has no concrete things to show that he alleviated the sufferings of the typhoon victims. He was like a vulture waiting from the sidelines ready to feast on the mistakes of the govt. Kibitzer, that’s what he was.

He was free to criticize and broadcast to the whole world what he observed during the relief operation. Our govt. did not prevent him from doing so. But he should limit himself there. His sarcastic questioning of our govt. official about, according to him, the lousy way of handling the situation in front of the TV camera was going too far as if showing their inefficient ways. He could have afforded them some measure of respect. As far as I’m concern, his behavior was tantamount to meddling with the relief operation. Other foreign contingents who came here to help did their thing silently without showy behavior.

We salute you Anderson Cooper! Thanks Pres. Obama for recognizing him, Mr. Anderson Cooper is very much welcome in the Philippines…he is truly an honest journalist unlike Korina Sanches all very cozy in her very comfortable studio while the Filipino victims of Haiyan are suffering, dead & are missing. What a shame Korina! Have you and your husband even stepped out & gone to Tacloban to give out relief goods probably NOT…Praises & thanks to all the countries, international community & all the foreign journalist & relief workers who really put aside their own safety just so to help the victims, kudos to all of them & THANKS!

this is unconstitutuional for the Philippines to be disqualified for all worlwide beauty pageants… there is no legal basis although we have prettier or had the most beautiful women in the world, we must have to be participating or else we, Filipinos are not one amongst the United Nat5ions. this is really very hurting to know about this issue.

I hate Philippine officials it seems like they don’t know what their doing, so corrupt, the improvement of the country is so slow, they can’t handle the country well. PNoy would love this! And so would Mar. Imagine, Anderson Cooper would have to talk in measured diplomatic lines, and not in matter-of-fact off-the-cuff commentaries. He can’t just blurt about what he sees with his two eyes anymore. And Korina wouldn’t have to be suspended. Unfortunately for our boys and girl, this is a satire.

Folks: there is a difference between hoax and satire/parody. The Adobo Chronicles is a news parody site. It says so on the site. Google “satire.” It is a legitimate art form. I have no control over what people believe or not believe. But thanks for all your comments. Overwhelmingly and clearly, you hold AC in high regard. Pre, hindi dahil sinabi nyang satire ang blog na ‘to, ibig sabihin siya na kagad. Dapat nga magpasalamat ka pa sa kanyang sinasabihan nya yung mga tao na satire ‘to e. Kung hindi, dadami yung mga bayolenteng katulad mo na nagwawala muna bago mag-isip.

Shame on you Korina!!! Stay away from newscasting. Your news is bias. How can you do that to Anderson Cooper when he is reporting at the ground zero. He was there physically, emotionally, spiritually reporting the truth. I am proud to be a Filipino but I am ashamed of how your attitude towards reporting. It’s a shame!!! Yuck.

can tell anything she so crazy to tell that words to mr. cooper she did not even feel what was going on in Tacloban,,,puro kc dakdak…not like newscaster from GMA before they talk they do the work and witness everything what happen….suspension is not worth it for you..you should be fired in your job.kwento mo sa pagong!!!
