MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It’s been three long years and majority of Filipinos still haven’t received their National IDs. It boggles the mind of netizens because IDs can be printed in minutes by vendors along Recto Street in Manila.
Finally, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has come clean on the problem.
Upon interrogation by Senator Bato dela Rosa, PSA head Lisa Grace Bersales admitted that her agency underestimated the huge volume and amount of work that would go into the program.
She said: “We must apologize to the Filipino people for the inexcusable delay in the printing of the National IDs. The volume was so huge that we had no choice but to allow our main contractor to subcontract with a subcontractor which subcontracted with a contractor which had subcontracting agreements with several other vendors. Somehow, the work got mired somewhere in between,” Bersales said.
It was at this point that the senator proposed stopping the printing and making the National IDs digital instead since he said all Filipinos have cellphones.
Now you know.
