HONOLULU, Hawaii (The Adobo Chronicles, Honolulu Bureau) – In Hawaii, we say “Aloha” to mean different things: “hello or welcome” when greeting people, or “Farewell and Godspeed” when parting with friends and loved ones.
September 21, 2023 (the 51st anniversary of the Marcos Martial Law) has come and gone, but Darryl Yap’s third in a film series on the Marcoses is nowhere to be found in theaters. It was the supposed opening date for this flick which chronicles the Hawaii exile of the family in 1986 all the way to the 2022 election of Bongbong Marcos. The first two of the series were, of course, “Maid in Malacañang” and “Martyr or Murderer.”
No official announcement from the Yap camp on the status of the film, but disappointment is already spreading among the fans of the two previous Marcos flicks.
While the cast of the new film has long been announced, the speculation is that it hasn’t even started shooting.
Does this mean we should bid “Aloha” (the farewell version) to MaM, or hope for its incarnation on September 21, 2024?
