QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Quezon City Bureau) – Kabataan (Youth) Partylist Representative Raoul Manuel may be stripped of his seat in the Philippine Congress after it was discovered that he is a dual citizen. The Constitution only allows Filipino citizens to run for public office.

The accidental discovery came on Monday, July 24, 2023, the day President Bongbong Marcos delivered his second State of the Nation Address (SONA).

Manuel first attended the People’s SONA before proceeding to Marcos’ SONA.

House Speaker Martin Romualdez said Manuel’s actions are proof of his dual citizenship: that of the Republic of the Philippines and the other, the People’s Republic of the Philippines.
