SAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – America’s major league welcomes two Filipinos this week as the Philadelphia Eagles sign football quarterback Tim Tebow and the Golden State Warriors recruit boxer and basketball playing coach Manny Pacquiao.

Tebow is Filipino by birth, having been born in the Philippines to American missionary parents. He hasn’t played in the NFL since he was with the New York Jets in 2012. He was released by the New England Patriots before the 2013 season and spent last year working in television as an analyst for the SEC Network and ESPN. Despite being out of the league, the 27-year-old Tebow remained one of the most popular players around. He has a legion of fans who follow him because of his strong Christian beliefs.

The Golden State Warriors’ announcement today ends months of speculation on whether the NBA team was eyeing Pacquiao after he was seen in a practice session with the Warriors in San Francisco last August.  The boxer is a playing coach in the Philippine Basketball Association, the counterpart of NBA.

Pacquiao is scheduled to fight Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas on May 2. Win or lose, Pacquiao is secured a spot with the Warriors.

Pacquiao, a member of Philippine Congress, previously announced his intention to run for president of his country, but the minimum age qualification for president is 40. He is 36 and not eligible to run in 2016. This gives him at least 6 years to play in the NBA before the next Philippine presidential elections in 2022.

Like Tebow, Pacquiao is a devout Christian.
