POPE FRANCIS REPRIMANDS PHILIPPINE MAYOR

Vatican City, Italy (The Adobo Chronicles) – Pope Francis sent a strongly-worded letter to the mayor of Palo, Leyte in the Philippines, reprimanding her for attempting to hide the truth from the leader of the Roman Catholic Church.  The pope is scheduled to visit the Philippines next January and wants to meet with the victims devastated and rendered homeless by last year’s typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda).

Mayor Remedios Petilla of Palo wants to transfer 250 families living in bunk houses in Barangay Candahug to another place five kilometers away so they will not be very visible when Pope Francis visits the town in January. The families, who had been staying in the bunk houses in Candahug after their houses were destroyed by the supertyphoon on Nov. 8, 2013, would be transferred to other bunk houses in Barangay Tacuranga or permanent relocation sites ahead of the papal visit.

The transfer “is being fast tracked because of the scheduled visit of the Pope next year,” Petilla said.

In his letter to Petilla, Pope Francis said, “What part of ‘visiting the typhoon victims’ do you not understand? That is the primary reason I am coming to the Philippines. Do not displace them just to impress me because I am not that easily impressed, especially by those who are not truthful like yourself.”

The Vatican is considering papal visit guidelines which now include banning Mayor Petilla from coming anywhere close to the pope when he visits Leyte.

  1. Yah, I believe the message from the Pope is a hoax, bogus, whatever. But I can see this is happening. If the reason behind of transferring, or at least rushing the transfer of these people is to please the Pope, then I say, hindi nman tama, di ba? Primarily, that is HIS purpose in coming here, to see what is real and actual. HE wont bother going to relocation sites cause that’s given, they are well placed already. What I’m up here is the reason for rushing the transfer lang. Mabuhay tayong lahat…

  3. Peace mga brothers and sisters! Peace

  4. In my point of view lang po, huwag mapikon.

        1. Why not? Pope Francis is not a Filipino. He does not own the Philippines? Excommunication? Are you still living in Spanish era? Are you a Roman citizen that you sided him more than your countryman?

            1. It has nothing to do with my being not a Roman Catholic. When I was still a Catholic, I already asked, “Why did the friars didn’t allow Dagohoy or his brother (?) to be buried in a Catholic cemetery?” Why do religion allow this kind of disparity among people? BUT now my point is more of Philippine sovereignty, NOT religion. The Pope is not a Filipino citizen to dictate what an elected Filipino leader would like to do for her constituents and judge her motive. AND until now I don’t believe the Pope did say what the article is claiming.

Satire is a genre of literature, and sometimes graphic and performing arts, in which vices, follies, abuses, and shortcomings are held up to ridicule, ideally with the intent of shaming individuals, corporations, government or society itself, into improvement. – Wikipedia.

      1. The mayor is more worried about the reputation of her town and how it looks to the Pope more than the well being of those people. That’s why the Pope is upset with her. He’s just trying to see the victims and possibly give guidance. That’s more than the mayor could ever do by relocating them.

        1. The improvements of the City during the Mayor’s incumbency are the results of his official duty as Mayor…the people don’t owe her anything, she’s just doing her job. But, when the mayor commits some error of judgment and his constituents are affected, the people have the obligation, not just a right, to seek redress in order to address the perceived error. If this was done and the Mayor still persist prolonging it to the prejudice of the well being of the affected constituents, naturally grievance will continue to exist and sometimes become uncontrollable. The thing became a valid grievance, not just a chismis which reached even the ears of the Pope

    1. yeah… that won’t be good… using those victims to make the LGU look good infront of a VIP instead of helping them with a permanent solution… it’s a shameful act on my opinion…

  5. The article might be satirical in nature but based on actual facts. It should not mislead us into believing that Mayor Petilla is not trying to pull an Imeldafication for the benefit of the papal visit. It would be a great disservice in the interest of truth if such a stunt is allowed to happen.Although it goes without saying that the the Pope has the means to get to the truth of the story anyway.

      1. Let me answer your question:

Satire is a centuries-old type of literature that uses humor and imitation to attack and ridicule individuals’ moral and character flaws, such as vice, unfairness, stupidity or vanity.
A parody is also an attack on folly, but it takes the form of a contemptuous imitation of an existing artistic production — usually a serious work of literature, news, music, artwork or film — for satirical or humorous purposes. Satire and parody have served for generations as a means of criticizing public figures, exposing political injustice, communicating social ideologies, and pursuing such artistic ends as literary criticism.

The First Amendment (in the U.S.) protects satire and parody as a form of free speech and expression.

While satire can be funny, humor is not the essential component. The main purpose of satire is to offer a constructive social criticism or to shame society into improving. Using wit, irony and sometimes sarcasm to put a spotlight on issues the author feels need to be looked at; normally social, political or religion topics.

Lastly, what is funny to some may not be funny to others. And yes, in many instances, satire can be offensive.

  6. Oo nga naman, this is very Filipino, this has been our practice, when an important leader from other countries visit us, the government always show only the good and impressive side of our country, they tend to put fences, beautiful fences to hide the people living in squatters area. I admire the Pope for addressing the issue, we are not supposed to hide the truth, we should not be ashamed of our true state.Syempre binagyo tayo what can you expect?Lets start to change our ways.Get real people

  7. We are an Non Goernment Organization who are doing permanent homes in Barangay Candahug, so far we have 150 homes done, at least those with clear land titles. Mayor Petilla and the Parish Priest Fr Butch representing Bishop Du is helping us a lot in realizing this project…. So what is this article talking about bunk houses in Barangay Candahug…Or maybe they are talking about the destroyed house in the frontage of Barangay Candahug which are in the 40meter easement that we cannot rebuild because of this valid guidline… they really need to be relocated… the coming of the pope might be a good time to finally relocate them… then what is wrong with that….

    1. That’s the whole point you idiot, didn’t you understand why the pope is “angry” (not anger as you said, wrong grammar you imbecile). Why hide the truth, why try to paint a perfect picture? The pope is visiting because he wants to see the truth, what gives the stupid mayor the right to hide the truth, the reality is, people are still suffering living in such bad condition due to the effects of typhoon Yolanda. What clean intentions are you talking about???? The pope wants to see for his eyes reality not some fake facade. You want me to write it in tagalog so you understand?

It is very clear as in crystal clear that the only reason why the Pope is visiting the Philippines is to see the conditions of the people who were devastated by typhoon yolando so why fast track the transfer. If they are really true to what they wanted to do, they should have fast track the relocation of all those victims in a better location and not just now!!!!! You’re really stupid Boni!!!!!!!!!!

Trying to be PERFECT in anything just like hiding the TRUTH and present the FICTITIOUS one. Pity for those people who were use as FAKE MASK just to IMPRESS someone of INTERNATIONAL caliber.
