Bali, Indonesia – The United States was aiming for the “grand slam” at this year’s Miss World beauty pageant, focused on winning the crown to add to the Miss Universe title won earlier this year by Miss U.S.A. Olivia Culpo.

Olivia Jordan (yes, another Olivia), U.S.A.’s entry to this pretigious pageant held over the weekend in the Indonesian resort of Bali, made it to the top 10 contestants during Saturday’s finals, but not to the top 5.

Miss Philippines, Megan Young, an early favorite in the competition, went on to win the title, the first ever by a Filipina in Miss World’s 62-year history.  Miss France was first runner-up and Miss Ghana came in third.

Less than 24 hours after the pageant finals, the U.S. filed a formal protest with the Miss World pageant organizers, saying that Young should be credited as a U.S. entry as well.  Young was born in the United States to an American father and Filipina mother, but moved at age 10 to the Philippines where she is currentlly a model, actress and television host.  “Technically, she is also Miss U.S.A,” the protest document indicated. “Even her surname is very American. Can’t she be at least declared as a ‘dual contestant’ by virtue of her dual citizenship?” it added.

Miss World owner Julia Morley has not returned calls from The Adobo Chronicles seeking comment on the U.S. protest.

  4. Haha! Why don’t you just people accept the fact. That sometimes a specific title from an international pageant wouldn’t be for america? Miss World 2013 – Megan Young choose to represent Philippines on that prestigious competion, not the USA. She grew up here in Manila, belief, Language, lifestyles and her living. He almost spend her life here in Philippines. Although her father was an american, but still her mother was a Filipino, she in in dual-citizenship, and as human being, she has the right to choose what’s best for her. She’s living here in manila, and she represent Philippines without any doubt, unlike for USA, will she be crowned as a title holder in USA? And do you think that USA will allow a half-blooded Filipino to represent their country? Ofcourse not. Because I believe that USA doesn’t have any trust for Philippines, and doesn’t believe that they can. USA got the number of Miss Universe title, because USA, owns the Miss Universe Organization. So it’s their choice to choose as well their contestant.

    1. I think this claim is not justifiable because USA already had their own candidate. Megan young wore a sash that said Miss Philippines not Miss USA. Therefore the Philippines is the sole winner of Miss World. Their contestant did not win so why claim Megan Young to be their contestant too ? It’s so funny to see the most powerful country in the world on their knees begging for something.LOL!

  10. Had Megan Young did not win the Miss World Crown, U.S. would have not protested. Only after winning the title U.S. claimed Megan should have a dual representation. Is this not a serious insult to Olivia Jordan the Miss World USA??? What you think??

Lately, there was a beauty contest in the US that an Indian descent won the title, a lot of people in the US chastized her, and not so nice name calling were thrown at her. i think the same thing might happen to Miss Young had she won that title in the US. The Hispanics ,other Caucasian and Malay blood mixed together, produces this beautiful features….The Latinas and the Filipinas possess these beautiful features. Most of the time the Latinas are more statuesque because of their Amazonian blood.
      People , just accept that some breed of people have better advantage because of their bloodlines …
      Just stay beautiful inside and out and be at peace with everyone!

    Megan Young represents the Philippines so the title goes to the Philippines not to the U.S.A.
    Surely, they disown their contestant after the Philippines took the crown.

      1. Tama ka kabayan ang bansa natin ang dapat ukulan ng pansin kung papaano malutas ang malalaking problema ng ating bansa kung paano iayos yong mga mukhang perang mga namamahala sa bansa natin!   20. Legally, she’s both American and Filipino. American law states that you can automatically be American as long as you are born within the US borders regardless of your parentage.

    In Philippine law, you can automatically be Filipino as long as one of your parents is one. It doesn’t matter where you were born.

  26. yes mega young is a daughter of an American father … i agree, but there are good number of case like this one; You presidents father is an African, your president grew up in Indonesia with an Indonesian step father … 2ndly, there are good number of American fathers in the Philippines and most of the are IRRESPONSIBLE FATHERS! leaving behind illegitimate children. I’m not “anti-American” … i am just anti-molesters.
